Last weekend our Saxons team travelled to the Alan Higgs Centre in Coventry for the opening round of their Div One campaign.

Twin brothers David & Luka Guzijan were joined by Xander Ray & Noah O'Sullivan in the team as they faced Northampton & Rotherham Metro.

On Saturday afternoon the Saxons got off to the perfect start by beating Northampton 16-12.

In the opening quarter against Northampton Luka Guzijan scored three as the teams tied the quarter at 4-4.

By half time the Saxons were two clear at 8-6 thanks to a double from Luka Atkinson and one apiece from Capt Wayne Davis & Veli Rashkov.

Into the second half and Northampton cut the deficit to one by the end of the third period at 10-9, the Saxon goals came via Andy Holt & Alun Dorrington.

In the final period Northampton levelled the game at 11-11 but with over five minutes of the match remaining our Saxons regrouped and scored five unanswered goals to close out the game at 16-11, our five goals coming from a Luka Guzijan & Luka Atkinson brace & efforts from Xander Ray & Andy Holt. Northampton scored a consultation goal right at the death for 16-12.

On Sunday the team slipped to a narrow 13-15 defeat to Rotherham Metro, in the opening quarter the Metro's did the damage taking a 5-1 lead.

In the second quarter the Saxons clawed their way back into the game to narrow the gap at 6-8.

However in the third period the Saxons defence couldn't get to grips with Metro's No7 as he scored five goals, Andy Holt claimed a double but Metro's edged further in front at 8-13.

The final quarter saw the Saxons score three to one as the score moved on to 11-14 but with time running out Metro scored again before a late double made the scoreline more respectable but a disappointing defeat 13-15.

With three points on the board, our Saxons sit fourth in the table and with three matches to come in late October against 6th placed Radcliffe, current leaders British Army & 5th placed Caledonia Storm, the team has every chance of securing a top five position and promotion to Championship One for the second half of the season..
