Our U18's start NCWPL Div One with a win & a loss...

Stephen Chambers

Saturday at Habs saw the start of this season's NCWPL U18 Div One..

Our first game on Saturday was a local derby against West London Penguins who took an early lead following a major foul but the team responded immediately to level via a fierce shot from Gethin Dorrington.

However with the opening quarter coming to a close Penguin edged back in front at 2-1.

Into the second period and Watford pulled level via a penalty converted by Rishi Patel but a mistake by goalie Vuk allowed Penguin to once again nudge in front with a penalty of their own for 3-2.

Another goal from Rishi and another penalty this time converted by Illja Crompton had Watford in front for the first time at 3-4. But within 18 seconds of Watford taking the lead Penguin had equalised for 4-4 and the score remained the same until half-time.

Watford took an early lead in the third period via another Dorrington effort from 6m but then Penguin score three unanswered goals to lead by two at 7-5. Nico Obradovic reduced the deficit to 7-6 but with time running out in the third period Penguin restored their two goal lead at 8-6.

Into the final period and I am unsure what coach Edi said to the team in the break but it certainly worked as Watford score seven unanswered goals to close out the game 13-8.

Both Obradovic & Dorrington scored doubles and goals from Patel, Crompton & Karem Ozkan with the last of the game stunned Penguin.

A great start to our U18 NCWPL Div One campaign, Manchester next.

The Manchester game was a difficult watch as Watford took a first quarter lead at 4-3.

The second period saw Manchester out score Watford 4-1 to turn the game around to lead 7-5.

Into the second half and Manchester kept the pressure up and extended their lead to 10-6. A missed penalty for the home side didn't do much for the team confidence but a late goal in the quarter from Crompton had the team within three at 10-7.

Another big final quarter was required and Watford managed to claw their way back into the game and get to with in one at 12-11.

However the effort to close the gap had taken its toll and Manchester then edged clear at 14-11.

A late goal via a bounce back off the post wasn't enough and Watford slipped to a 14-12 defeat.

Next round will be on Saturday 14/11 at Marlborough College when the team play Coventry & current leaders of the Division Rari Nantes.
