What more could you wish for on a Thursday night than a home cup semi final v ‘The Essex Boys’ – Colchester. With the Ref’s cup being played under the handicap system, the statisticians at World Aquatics determined Colchester would start with a 7-0 advantage.
Did Edi have one eye on this when he selected three centre forward with the effervescent Peter Pickford mentoring the young guns ‘Safe Hands’ and Theodoros? The tactical genius appeared to be onto something as they scored three of Watford’s opening quarter four. But Colchester went toe to toe in quarter one and we drew to a close 4-3 (4-10 on agg).
The goals well and truly flowed in the second quarter and this team's transition season looked to be on the right track with some good waterpolo being played; it appeared the result would not be in doubt. Perhaps it was the motivation to reach the final and possibly face the ‘Pickford 3’? It was much the same business as usual after half time but perhaps a bit of easing off with a dip in game management and the exclusions beginning to rise.
The final period brought a late comeback from Colchester and finally some real drama. Cami Baker, tired of his good guy image, decided to rewrite the script his first exclusion in the final minute and then in the dying seconds he was left red faced in the corner well and truly on the naughty step. What was to follow later that evening can only be described as the performance of the season as Cami produced the film of the generation. The select audience for the premiere described it as ‘hilarious’ ‘a delivery of a screen god’ and ‘unsurpassed’. If you were not fortunate to see it yet, you have to get your hands on a bootleg copy. Without a doubt he has missed his calling in life, Cami you are made for the big screen.
Hollywood already has their eye on a blockbuster sequel Watford v Otter, Pickford v Pickford but will Croydon follow the script when they face Otter? In hopeful anticipation Watford have offered to host, the executive suite is being prepared for Mr & Mrs Pickford and as the week draws to a close, we are left with two burning questions how will anyone follow Cami’s legendary video? If Otter make the final, Mr & Mrs Pickford who will you support?
