Watford Retain Herts KO Cup for third season in a row...

Stephen Chambers21 Jun - 09:12

A warm evening at the Letchworth Lido was the setting for the annual Herts KO Cup...

With Five teams entered into this year's KO Cup, the competition format would be a round-robin event with each team playing four games.

Watford began the defence of their title against Spalding and opened up a 5-0 lead at half time thanks to four different goalscorers.

Into the second half and the team increased their lead to 8-0 before Spalding found the back of the net for 8-1, Watford scored again for 9-1 before the Lincs side got their second. FT 9-2.

Next up was Cambridge and in a cagey first half Watford edged it 2-1. The second half saw Watford saw again before Cambridge made it 3-2. But Watford stepped up a gear and scored four unanswered goals to close the game out FT 7-2.

Our third game of the evening was against hosts Hitchin and in a first half that was all one way Watford raced into a 6-0 lead. Hitchin scored first in the second half but another four goals for Watford saw them secure their third win FT 10-3.

Our final game of the evening was against North London rivals Enfield who had won two and drawn one of their three games therefore making the game against Watford a winner takes all final.

In a first half that saw Watford dominate the team raced into a 4-0 half time lead. Into the second half and an early penalty allowed the team to move 5-0 ahead. Enfield then scored two either side of another Watford goal for 6-2 but with time running out two more goals for Watford would see them win the fourth game of the evening. FT 8-2.

Overall Watford were worthy Champions and retain the KO Cup for a third season in a row.
